Ingredients
- 1 -1.5 LB. Boiling Onions
- Water to almost cover the onions in a sauce pan
- ¾ tsp. Salt (more to taste)
- 4 Tbs. Butter
- 2 Tbs. Flour
- 2 TBS sugar
- ¼ tsp. pepper (optional)
- A dash or two of Nutmeg
- 3 cups (or more) ½ and ½
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
The Build
- Peel boiling onions and drop them In a saucepan. (this is a PIA) so the other option is to boil the onions skin on for about 3 minutes, then cut off the root end and squeeze the onion out of the end. (call me I’ll talk you through it)
- Add water to almost cover the onions.
- Add Salt
- Boil onions until tender (DO NOT drain)
- Add butter, sugar, nutmeg, and pepper
- Add ½ and 1/2
- Mix flour with a little cold milk and whisk with a fork until thickened.
- Mix the flour/ ½ and ½ mix into the onions
- Simmer (do NOT boil) for about 5 more minutes
- Last, add the parmesan cheese and stir well until the cheese is incorporated.
